It’s my strategy. I’ll go months without needing to say anything. Few people have ever said, “oh, a middle-aged white man needs to say something? Yes, please!!”

"I think it is worth considering that perhaps we've veered too far into the realm of punditry and musing when it comes to our information diets and not enough consuming foundational facts and data to actually form a basis for how things are rather than how we'd prefer them to be. Being a part of The Discourse is largely overrated while shutting up, listening and learning are sorely underrated."

In the past fortnight, I have had two-and-a-half conversations about this problem with colleagues in the school. The half is a brief non-reply to a question from a Year 10 student thinking about doing journalism when she matriculates. What is your advice for the student?
